one a day. i believe in enjoying what you’re doing, doing what you enjoy, at your best

Truffala Trees, Brown Bar-ba-loots, Swo-mee Swans, Humming-Fishes…

The Lorax by Dr. Seuss

we finished the book this afternoon during storytime before nap… it is a marvellous book. the kids loved it and so did i. i do feel it helped that the book was a first for most of us (except the boy who brought the book). oh and that boy, he felt so good having the book he borrowed from the library read at storytime. could see his delight especially when he tried to explain some parts to the other children who had questions.

today was pure enjoyment of the story – one of the things perhaps at times we tend to neglect, at least for myself. where i get too caught up with ‘what’s the moral of the story’, ‘what does the story teach us’ and forget the whole point of children’s stories. to entertain, to inspire, to dream. today  i allowed myself to immerse in the story just as much as my children, without allowing the ‘educator’ in me to get in the way of story telling.

found some online resources about The Lorax, including a short description of it by kidsread.wordpress and an art activity at sparkplugging.com. for art i would have my children come up with their own ways of representing the objects/ places/ people in the book – some of which i do think we would never think of!

Have a video of  The Lorax which I am hoping to share with them next week. Bet they’ll love it!
